In a recent appearance on the 90s Baby Show in London, the “Peru” hitmaker recounted his near-miss career switch, detailing his plans to sell rechargeable lamps under Ajah Bridge in Lagos.

Before contemplating the lamp business, Fireboy had tried his hand at selling pepper soup, but sought a more “dignified” trade.

“I was considering selling rechargeable lamps. I met one guy under Ajah Bridge, and he told me about the business. I told him I was interested. At that time, it felt more dignified. At least, people will sell you a lamp, but selling pepper soup was crazy,” Fireboy explained.

He also revealed that his parents were unaware of his struggles and the menial jobs he undertook, a period he now reflects upon with gratitude. “It was crazy, but now, we thank God,” he stated.

Fireboy’s journey to musical success began unexpectedly when he was recruited via WhatsApp by Olamide’s YBNL Nation in 2018.

This pivotal moment led to his breakout single, “Jealous,” featured on the “YBNL Mafia Family” album in 2018. His debut album, “Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps,” released in 2019, solidified his position as a prominent figure in the Afrobeats genre.
