Nigerian content creators support each other more than musicians

Gilmore credits mutual support for Nigerian content creators’ success, saying it surpasses that in the music industry, with social media driving growth.

Popular Nigerian content creator, Gilmore, has shared his perspective on the unique support system among Nigerian content creators, which he believes is a driving factor behind their growing success.

In a recent interview with Hip TV, Gilmore noted that this supportive culture within the content-creating industry stands in stark contrast to that of the music industry, where competition is often more pronounced.

“Content creators enjoy massive success because it [the content-creating industry] is more supportive than the music industry,” Gilmore explained.

He emphasised that this collective approach helps creators thrive, as they often collaborate and promote each other, enabling broader reach and engagement across audiences.

Gilmore also pointed to the critical role of social media in the rise of content creators, highlighting that, with the shift towards mobile viewing, platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube have become the primary avenues for audiences. “This is 2024; everybody is on their phone.

People no longer watch TV. You can make money off social media,” he said, underscoring how creators leverage these platforms not only for visibility but also as a major source of income.

During the interview, Gilmore shared a glimpse of his personal interests, revealing that afrobeats singer Ayra Starr is his ideal woman, while Nigerian singer Niniola was his childhood crush.

This light-hearted disclosure adds to his relatable persona, a quality that has contributed to his popularity among fans.

Gilmore’s insights reflect a broader trend within Nigeria’s digital entertainment sector, where content creators continue to experience rapid growth by fostering a culture of support and utilising social media to its fullest potential.
