Its reach has grown through Netflix, which began promoting Nigerian films in 2015.

Landmark releases like Lionheart in 2018 opened the doors for a wider audience, including the African diaspora and viewers curious about African culture.

Technological advances and better infrastructure have further enabled Nollywood’s global expansion.

Online platforms and social media have become vital tools for promoting content, breaking down previous geographic barriers.

Opportunities such as franchised online games, inspired by popular films and series, offer new avenues to attract international audiences.

Despite the progress, Nollywood faces challenges in distribution and revenue control.

Current reliance on third-party platforms like Netflix means production companies have limited access to revenue structures and viewer data.

Plans for dedicated Nigerian streaming services, such as Kava, aim to address this by giving studios greater control over content distribution and marketing, allowing more profits to go directly to local production houses.
