National Orientation Agency controversy

The National Orientation Agency faces backlash for promoting Omoni Oboli’s film Love in Every Word, sparking debate over misuse of its platform

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has come under fire following a social media post promoting Love in Every Word, a romantic drama produced by Nollywood veteran Omoni Oboli.

The agency’s post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians accusing the NOA of misusing its official platform to promote a commercial film rather than focusing on its core civic education mandate.

In the post, the agency described the sequel, Love in Every Word: The Movie, as “much-anticipated” and praised its record-breaking performance.

“The much-anticipated sequel to Love in Every Word, titled Love in Every Word: The Movie, has taken audiences by storm… achieving an impressive six million views on YouTube within its first 24 hours and surpassing 13 million views in one week,” the post read.

The agency also lauded the cast — Patience Ozokwo, Bamike ‘Bam Bam’ Olawunmi, and Uzor Arukwe — and described the film as a showcase of “Nigerian talent at its finest,” highlighting its themes of love, resilience, and innovation.

However, the post triggered a wave of backlash from Nigerians online.

An X user, @real_white, wrote:

“Is this the work of the National Orientation Agency? Omo, this country doesn’t have a manual. Everyone is doing as they like.”

Another user, @DrWealth, said:

“A supposed national enlightenment agency is posting about a movie at a critical time. See what they’re enlightening us about.”

Similarly, @Micah questioned the agency’s priorities, saying:

“Why is Nigeria’s chief orientation agency posting superficial nonsense when the population is divided along tribal and religious lines?”

User @ChiefSubstance described the post as a “clear case of misplaced priorities”, while @Ola called for disciplinary action, saying,

“Our youths are being radicalised, and you are showing a film? Fire them, please, Mr President.”

The sequel, released seven months after the original film, follows Chioma and Odogwu — played by Bamike ‘Bam Bam’ Olawunmi-Adenibuyan and Uzor Arukwe — as they navigate love, cultural differences, and personal growth.
