Terra Academy for the Arts TAFTA stuns at TALP X with vibrant theatre, music and social impact. A bold step for young Nigerian creatives
Terra Academy for the Arts TAFTA once again delivered a masterclass in performance and purpose with its latest edition of TALP X, held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Terra Kulture in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event brought together storytelling, social commentary and creative excellence in a way only Terra Academy for the Arts TAFTA can.
Running from 2 pm to 5 pm, the showcase featured four powerful productions created and performed by TAFTA trainees. Audiences were treated to an emotional journey that sparked both reflection and applause.
One of the crowd favourites was Gbas Gbos, a lively family drama that explored the chaos and comedy of conflict in the home. Its sharp humour and cultural insight made it both entertaining and thought-provoking.
You Say! added lightness with a blend of stand-up and live music. The audience laughed and clapped through relatable stories delivered with charm and rhythm.
In a deeper tone, Endgame explored the emotional weight of toxic relationships and the lasting effects they leave behind. The performance struck a personal chord with many in the room.
Jigida closed the day with a bold narrative on resistance and gender politics. It followed a group of women who pushed back against a broken system, captivating viewers with its message of strength and unity.
I learnt a lot. I was entertained, it was educative and I will do it again. Shout out to TAFTA and BAP.
Speaking after the show, TAFTA Brand Ambassador and actress Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan shared her thoughts.
“I learnt a lot. I was entertained, it was educative and I will do it again. Shout out to TAFTA and BAP,” she said.
Mr JO Umoibom, Academy Lead at Terra Academy for the Arts TAFTA, highlighted the importance of this platform.
“When we train our participants, we give them this opportunity to practise what they have learnt. From rehearsals to today, they are performing on the biggest theatre stage in Nigeria.”
Founded by award-winning director Bolanle Austen-Peters, Terra Academy for the Arts TAFTA offers free creative industry training in scriptwriting, animation, lighting, sound and entrepreneurship.
With a blend of online and in-person learning, it gives young Nigerians the skills and confidence to succeed.
TALP (TAFTA Action Learning Project) represents the peak of this training. Graduates form production teams, build original works and perform live on stage in a celebration of collaboration and growth.
With support from the Mastercard Foundation, TALP X continues to spotlight bold African storytelling.
The July edition sold out, proving again that Terra Academy for the Arts TAFTA is shaping the future of performance in Nigeria.
