Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared her reflections on making her acting debut in the upcoming American fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone.

In a recent interview with CBS, Ayra revealed that the experience challenged her in unexpected ways, forcing her to adopt a new level of discipline and punctuality far beyond what she was used to in the music industry.

“It’s my first movie ever. I’m used to being a singer and a bit of a diva on set, but this film made it clear—it’s not about you. You have to be on time and put in the work,” she said.

The singer, known for her vibrant presence and hit records, said that working on the film gave her a new respect for actors.

“It made me get used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable.”

Ayra Starr, who expressed her long-standing interest in acting, described the role as both a dream and a challenge.

“Acting is something I’ve always wanted to do. I love music, but I’ve also loved acting. I’ve always been a little shy about it, but this was the first time I’ve been on camera and not singing. It was amazing.”

The film Children of Blood and Bone is based on the bestselling novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi.

Scheduled for release by Paramount Pictures on 15 January 2027, the film is already generating significant buzz, especially with Ayra Starr’s unexpected but well-received transition into acting.

“I learned so much from everyone—not just the greats,” Ayra added, referencing the accomplished cast she worked with.

Her fans have reacted with pride and support, praising her for stepping outside her comfort zone and embracing a new form of expression.

Industry insiders also noted that her crossover from music to film could open more doors for Nigerian talents in Hollywood.
