Emotional Birthday Cancellation by Kamo State as skitmaker calls off celebration over insecurity and abductions in Nigeria

Nigerian skitmaker and actor Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, on Thursday announced an Emotional Birthday Cancellation, calling off his planned celebration in solidarity with victims of insecurity and recent abductions in parts of Nigeria.

The content creator, who was expected to mark his birthday on June 14 with a fan-focused party, disclosed the decision in an emotional Instagram video, stating that proceeding with festivities at this time would be insensitive given the prevailing national situation.

Kamo State explained that his decision was influenced by ongoing insecurity concerns, including reports of the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, adding that the country’s current mood made celebration inappropriate.

He stated that while he appreciated the overwhelming response to his initial announcement, which reportedly attracted tens of thousands of comments from fans, the circumstances had prompted a change of plans.

In a reflective message, Kamo State said it would be inappropriate for him and his team to host a party while families were still grieving and communities were affected by insecurity.

He emphasised that the Emotional Birthday Cancellation was driven by respect for victims and a desire to lend his voice to national concerns rather than pursue personal celebration.

“Safety first,” he said, adding that there was “nothing to celebrate” while affected families were still awaiting the return of abducted children and teachers.

The decision has since drawn widespread praise from fans and social media users, many of whom commended the skitmaker for prioritising empathy over entertainment.

The development comes amid heightened public concern over insecurity in Nigeria, which has sparked reactions from several entertainers and public figures in recent weeks.

Singer Tems recently faced criticism online following the announcement of new music, with some social media users accusing celebrities of being insensitive to national tragedies.

Actor Jide Awobona also responded to backlash over comments on insecurity, urging Nigerians not to turn against one another amid public frustration.

Meanwhile, singer Davido clarified his long-standing personal relationship with Seyi Tinubu after facing criticism linked to his public commentary on insecurity.

Other entertainers, including Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Remi, Ruth Kadiri and Lala Akindoju, have also voiced concerns in recent weeks over rising insecurity and its impact on families across the country.
