Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has criticised what she described as a growing trend among celebrities of sharing private conversations and emotional tributes after a person’s death.

The actress made the remarks during a recent podcast appearance, where she expressed concern over what she called performative online behaviour following the passing of public figures.

Her comments come amid renewed social media discussions sparked by tributes and screenshots shared online after the reported death of fellow Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.

Etinosa Idemudia said it was becoming common for people to ignore individuals while they are alive, only to later flood social media with emotional posts and private messages after their death.

She cautioned colleagues against the practice, noting that such behaviour often appears insincere and unnecessary.

“DM that you didn’t reply, my enemy will die now. If you try it and post that ‘Oh, we should have worked together, I was looking forward to working with you,’ what I will do to you in your dream, you wouldn’t believe it,” she said during the interview.

The actress also criticised what she described as delayed appreciation, where people allegedly refuse collaboration or communication in life but later present themselves as close associates after death.

Her remarks have sparked reactions online, with users divided over whether such posthumous tributes are genuine expressions of grief or attempts at social media engagement.
