Former Nollywood actor and producer Chris Bassey has stunned fans by revealing that he has left the Nigerian film industry to pursue a career in plumbing and construction in Canada.

In a candid conversation during a live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, Bassey shared details of his new life in North America.

He disclosed that he has been living in Canada for the past seven months and now earns a living working in construction and plumbing a far cry from the red carpets and film sets of Nollywood.

“It’s a new passion, and it pays well. Life is easier here,” Bassey said, explaining that the decision to switch careers came after realising the financial and lifestyle benefits of his new path compared to his previous work in the tech sector.

Bassey’s announcement has sparked conversation across social media, with many praising his courage to abandon fame for stability and personal fulfilment.

His journey highlights the growing trend of Nigerian entertainers opting for new lives and careers abroad, away from the pressures of public life.

He joins a list of Nollywood alumni who have transitioned into entirely new professions. Among them is Regina Askia-Williams, a former actress and beauty queen, who now works as a Family Nurse Practitioner in New York City.

While some may view Bassey’s move as unconventional, his story underscores a powerful message: career reinvention is not only possible it can also lead to greater happiness and security.
