Omotola Odunsi death stuns Nollywood as actors like Segbowe and Odunlade Adekola mourn the rising Yoruba actress known for roles in Lisabi and Amonata

Omotola Odunsi death has left the Nollywood community reeling, as the beloved Yoruba actress was confirmed dead on Thursday by fellow actor Akinola Akano, popularly known as Segbowe.

Segbowe posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, revealing that Omotola had recently assured him she was recovering from an illness. “Motola! You said you were FINE & BACK! This is a rude shock,” he wrote, alongside screenshots of their final chat. “Journey well, sister. God be with your family.”

Veteran actor Odunlade Adekola, under whom Omotola trained, also expressed his shock, posting simply, “Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”

Omotola Odunsi had been carving a space for herself in Yoruba cinema. She appeared in several notable films, including Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire, and Ifedayo. Her performances were described as passionate and full of promise.

The cause of her sudden death has not been officially confirmed, but fans and colleagues have taken to social media to celebrate her life and lament a career gone too soon.

Her passing marks yet another loss in Nollywood’s year of grief, reigniting calls for improved health support for actors within the industry.
