Grammy-winning artist Tems has encouraged the global community to visit Nigeria and Ghana to experience Africa’s vibrant culture, creativity, and musical diversity firsthand

At the 2025 Met Gala, Nigerian singer and Grammy Award winner Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, used her global platform to advocate for a deeper understanding of Africa beyond outdated stereotypes.

Speaking in a red carpet interview with Fashion Bomb Daily, Tems passionately called on people around the world to explore Africa—starting with Nigeria and Ghana.

“I always encourage people to go to Lagos and Ghana for vacation,” she said. “Just go and see for yourself before you make an opinion about Africa. See it for yourself and see how you feel.”

Tems highlighted the richness of African culture, pointing to its everyday creativity, traditions, and vibrant expressions through music, fashion, and art.

“I think it the beauty of Africa is in the creativity, the daily efforts, the looks, the songs, the traditions and the cultures,” she explained.

The global star also addressed the limited perceptions surrounding African music. While Afrobeats has taken the world by storm, Tems emphasized that it is only one piece of a much broader musical landscape.

“We are not just Afrobeats,” she asserted. “There is Amapiano, Afrosoul, R&B, Afro Jazz. There are so many genres in African music that people are not all the way tapped into yet.”

Tems continues to serve as a cultural ambassador for Africa, using her voice not just to sing, but to reshape global narratives and encourage a more authentic appreciation of the continent.
