Yoruba actor denies assault rumour involving Faithia Williams in a passionate video, warning bloggers about spreading damaging fake news without evidence
Veteran Yoruba actor denies assault claims in an emotional and explosive reaction to a widely circulated blog post. Oluwole Akeem Cole, known popularly as Alhaji Baraka, addressed fans directly after a disturbing report alleged that actress Faithia Williams tied him down and beat him.
The Nollywood actor refuted the rumour, branding it baseless and dangerous.
Taking to social media, Baraka expressed disbelief and outrage. The alleged incident, described in sensational language, accused Williams of physically assaulting him in what was clearly fabricated.
Baraka wasted no time in responding, confronting both the absurdity and the potential damage such a story could cause.
In a strongly worded video, he challenged the credibility of those behind the rumour. “How would they take a good look at someone like me and say that I, Baraka, was tied down and beaten to a pulp by Faithia Balogun?” he asked.
“Many of you bloggers are always ready to pit people against each other, maybe due to lack of solid stories. If that’s the case, find something else to do.”
The actor went further, openly criticising the ethics of bloggers who invent or twist stories for traffic. His words, fuelled by anger and frustration, revealed the emotional toll such fake reports can inflict on a public figure’s mental health and professional image.
Clearly shaken, Baraka cursed those spreading the rumour, warning of karmic consequences. He condemned the misinformation culture in the entertainment space and highlighted how it ruins relationships and sows division in the film industry.
“Some bloggers don’t think before they talk. Imagine saying someone tied me down and flogged me? It’s y’all that God will tie down and get the beating of your life. Unfortunate bloggers,” he added.
His post quickly drew attention online. While the blog that started the rumour has not issued a correction, many fans have taken Baraka’s side, flooding the comments with supportive messages.
Some praised him for standing up against the misinformation. Others called for responsible journalism in the digital age.
Interestingly, Faithia Williams has remained silent on the issue. Neither she nor her representatives have made a public statement. However, the lack of denial from her end has not affected her standing among fans, most of whom believe the story was fabricated from the start.
This latest scandal highlights the ongoing challenge of rumour management in Nigeria’s celebrity culture. With the rise of unregulated blogging, entertainers frequently face reputational attacks from anonymous or unverifiable sources.
As a result, more celebrities are turning to direct platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to combat lies in real-time.
Baraka’s frustration is understandable. As a respected figure in Yoruba cinema, he has spent decades building a legacy that fake news now threatens to taint. His decision to speak out reflects a growing need for older actors to defend their space in a rapidly changing media landscape.
Speaking later in another post, he said, “This is a lesson. We must protect ourselves. If we don’t speak out, people will believe anything they see online. I refuse to let lies define my name.”
As the drama simmers, fans hope that this incident will encourage better standards in entertainment reporting. Though false stories may spread fast, the truth, when spoken clearly and firmly, has the power to push back against the noise.
Baraka has shown he will not stay silent. Whether or not his colleague eventually addresses the matter, the record has been set straight by the man at the centre of the rumour.
