DJ Cuppy returns to school for fourth degree

Nigerian disk jokey Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has announced her plans to return to school to earn a fourth degree.

The 31-year-old daughter of billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, made this announcement in a video shared on her social media platforms on Monday.

“Have the courage to break the patterns in your life that are no longer serving you. It changed me completely!” she captioned the video.

In the video, she also stated that she already has three degrees, but her love for learning is what motivated her to apply to an academically demanding university.

Cuppy, who is known for flaunting her achievements on social media, in another post urged her fans to always celebrate their achievements, adding that celebrating one’s achievements builds confidence and motivation.

She wrote, “Be proud of yourself and be your biggest cheerleader. Make sure you celebrate your achievements to build confidence AND stay motivated!! #CuppyOnAMission.”

In October 2021, Cuppy commenced her master’s degree programme in African Studies at Oxford University.

She completed her thesis which is the required academic research work the following year. She said although she did not get merit or distinction, she is glad to have passed the thesis.

Last year, Cuppy bagged her third degree and second master’s (MSc) from the University of Oxford, England.

Cuppy was recently appointed as King’s Trust International Ambassador to King Charles III.

British monarch King Charles III invited DJ Cuppy to a reception at Buckingham Palace in celebration of The King’s Trust Awards 2024.

The multi-talented star, known for his entertaining skits, revealed that he began providing for his family at just 11 years old, stepping into a caretaker role due to the loss of his father when he was only two.

In a candid account of his early struggles, Oluwadolarz shared how his father’s passing led him to take on responsibilities far beyond his years. “I didn’t enjoy my childhood,” he said.

“I became a man at the age of 11. I was contemplating what the family would eat at that age.” At one point, he worked as a truck loader at Dangote Cement, handling arduous tasks like loading pasta to help support his family.

Despite the added responsibility, Oluwadolarz pursued a career in music in 2008, though he noted that his career took years to gain traction.

He also described setbacks related to a past rape allegation that led to job losses, resulting in depression as he struggled to clear debts and salvage his brand’s reputation.

He further disclosed recent allegations of harassment by a music executive who, he claimed, demanded sexual favours as a condition for promoting his songs.

This revelation prompted a response from celebrated music executive Don Jazzy, who challenged him to name the individual involved.

Oluwadolarz’s journey from hardship to recognition showcases his resilience and dedication to both his family and career, and his experiences underscore the challenges many young Nigerians face in their rise to success.

Veteran actor Charles Olumo, famously known as Agbako, has died at 102. Known for his captivating roles in Yoruba films, Agbako’s career spanned over four decades, leaving a lasting impact on Nollywood and fans across Nigeria.

 

 

The Nigerian film industry mourns the loss of one of its legendary actors, Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, popularly known as Charles Olumo and Agbako, who passed away at the age of 102.

News of his death was confirmed by his colleague, Jide Kosoko, in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday. Kosoko, however, did not share details regarding the cause of death.

Kosoko’s tribute read, “Good night ooo, Baba Charles. a.k.a Agbako, 102 years, ba wasa ba. R I P.”
