NFVCB Kaduna film industry development plan as board pledges training, regulation and film showcase to boost creative growth in the state

The National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, in Kaduna, Nigeria, announced a renewed drive to expand the country’s film industry beyond its traditional production centres, with plans to host the grand finale of the Nigerian Indigenous Film Showcase in Kaduna State.

NFVCB Unveils Kaduna Creative Sector development plans,  unveiled during a stakeholders’ engagement session held at the Federal Secretariat Conference Hall and hosted by the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NFVCB, Dr Shaibu Husseini.

The meeting brought together representatives of film associations, guilds, and officials from the Kaduna State Ministry of Business and Innovation, providing a platform for dialogue on regulation, compliance, and sector growth.

Dr Husseini said the initiative reflects the Board’s commitment to ensuring that the creative industry delivers tangible economic and cultural value across Nigeria, particularly in emerging production hubs like Kaduna.

He confirmed that Kaduna will host the grand finale of the Nigerian Indigenous Film Showcase, a development expected to enhance local talent visibility and stimulate economic activity within the state’s creative ecosystem.

NFVCB boss also announced upcoming training programmes aimed at equipping filmmakers with modern production skills, describing capacity development as essential to sustaining competitiveness in a fast-changing global industry.

In a firm regulatory message, Dr Husseini warned against the release of unapproved films on digital platforms, including YouTube, stating that stricter enforcement measures would be applied moving forward.

He urged practitioners to adhere strictly to established guidelines, stressing that compliance is vital to maintaining professionalism and safeguarding industry standards.

Mrs Rhoda Dandura, Acting Director of the Licensing and Documentation Department, also addressed participants, calling for more responsible storytelling that reflects societal values and protects younger audiences.

She emphasised that content creators must be more conscious of the influence their work has on public morality and youth development.

Stakeholders at the session described the engagement as constructive and forward-looking, noting that it reflected the NFVCB’s commitment to balancing regulation with industry support.

Mr Zwahu Yanwaidi, representing the Kaduna State Ministry of Business and Innovation, pledged government backing for the planned showcase and training initiatives, describing them as timely for the state’s growing creative sector.

Dr Husseini assured participants that the Board would sustain regular engagements with industry players and return to Kaduna to consolidate the progress made during the session.
