Tope Alabi marriage controversy resurfaces as the gospel singer clarifies her past with ex Lekan Olaoye and denies being married to him
Tope Alabi marriage controversy has once again taken centre stage as the celebrated Nigerian gospel singer finally addressed claims surrounding her alleged marriage to Lekan Olaoye, the father of her first child.
In a candid video shared on her Facebook page, Tope Alabi dismissed the long-standing rumours, clarifying that she was never formally married to Olaoye, despite their relationship producing a daughter, Ayomikun.
The award-winning singer explained that Olaoye never took the traditional step of introducing his family to hers, a key element in Yoruba marital rites. According to her, the relationship was never sealed by either family.
“I started living with him, feeling there was no point going back to where my family was pressuring me to marry at all costs,” she said. “Little did I know I had moved from the frying pan to the fire.”
Tope Alabi revealed that even when her father repeatedly questioned her about the relationship, Olaoye never brought his relatives for formal introductions. “It took repeated insistence before my so-called partner finally came one night, bringing along work friends,” she recalled.
She added that when her family asked about the next step, Olaoye merely responded with “okay,” a promise that never materialised. “If that ‘okay’ was ever going to come to pass, perhaps it would have been tomorrow. But tomorrow never came,” she said with emotion.
Now married to music producer Soji Alabi, Tope reflected that her father eventually witnessed her marry into a respectable family before his passing.
Speaking directly to young women, the singer shared a powerful message: “Ladies, please listen to me. When a man sees that you are gullible or vulnerable, he can take advantage of you.”
By confronting the Tope Alabi marriage controversy head-on, the gospel star has not only clarified her past but also inspired many with a story of resilience, faith, and self-worth.
