Rita Edochie Fake Death Rumours

Nollywood’s Rita Edochie criticises recurring fake death rumours about her colleague Osita Iheme, urging responsible social media use.

Nollywood veteran actress Rita Edochie has strongly condemned the persistent fake death rumours about her colleague, Osita Iheme, popularly known as Pawpaw.

Edochie took to Instagram to express her frustration after the false reports resurfaced for the second time in recent weeks.

In her post, Edochie disclosed how these baseless rumours had deceived some fans, who responded with emotional messages and premature condolences in comment sections.

She pointed out that this disturbing trend reflects a wider issue of misinformation on social media.

“This rumour has come up before. A couple of days ago, it came up for the second time. Pictures of my great son and veteran colleague, Osita Iheme, trended everywhere on social media with captions that they were dead.

Crazy netizens believed the fake gist and began commenting RIP on themselves,” she wrote.

Edochie also highlighted how similar incidents had personally affected her, recounting how a photograph taken on a film set was manipulated to create false death news about her.

While acknowledging the positive opportunities social media offers, especially for young Nigerians, Edochie criticised its misuse.

“Social media has literally done more harm than good to society. It has also been a constant source of enrichment for most Nigerian youths in the country, but the abuse is getting out of hand,” she added.

The actress urged netizens to exercise caution and verify information before sharing, emphasising the damage caused by spreading false narratives.
