Toke Makinwa advises singles not to lower their standards or give in to societal pressure when choosing a partner

Controversial media personality Toke Makinwa has sparked a fresh debate with her latest advice to singles, urging them not to lower their standards when it comes to choosing a partner.

Speaking candidly on the latest episode of her podcast, *Toke Moments*, the TV host and entrepreneur delivered a message aimed at empowering individuals to remain steadfast in their relationship expectations despite external pressures.

According to Makinwa, one of the most common mistakes people make in their search for love is compromising their standards due to societal expectations or opinions.

She strongly encouraged listeners to stay true to what they desire in a partner, stating that there is no shame in having specific expectations and sticking to them.

In her podcast, Makinwa remarked, “You don’t need to lower your standard. There are over a billion people in this world. You can go and find somebody who has what you are looking for.

Stop letting society dictate for you.” Her words have resonated with many, especially in a society where public opinions and dating trends often influence individual decisions.

The media personality also addressed the often controversial topic of women depending on men to support them financially. Makinwa defended this choice, emphasising that there is nothing wrong with a woman expecting financial support in a relationship.

“If you say, ‘Oh, this girl is a money-hungry b*tch. All she wants is a man to pay her bills,’” Makinwa explained, “If you can’t pay her bills, leave. There is another guy who that is what he is looking for.”

This bold statement has ignited conversation about financial dynamics in relationships, and how societal labels can often be unfairly attached to women who desire financial support from their partners.

Further advocating for a shift in perspective, Makinwa advised listeners to refrain from publicly criticising others or trying to ‘fix’ them when they are not a match.

“If somebody is not what you are looking for, refuse the urge to start trying to pinpoint what is wrong with them because it is actually a reflection of you and not them,” she said, urging individuals to focus on their own personal journey rather than imposing their opinions on others.

Her message was clear: stay authentic, embrace your desires, and never compromise what you want for the sake of fitting into societal norms.

With millions of singles navigating relationships in today’s digital age, Toke Makinwa’s advice offers a timely reminder of the importance of self-worth and personal standards.
