Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo confirms she was questioned by the EFCC about money spraying at her daughter’s wedding, urging Nigerians to avoid the practice

Popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has publicly confirmed that she was invited for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning the spraying of money at her daughter, Priscilla Ojo’s, recent wedding ceremony.

In a statement shared on her Instagram account on Tuesday, the actress revealed that she honored the EFCC’s invitation on Monday, May 5, 2025, shortly after her return from the United Kingdom.

According to Ojo, during her session with the commission, she was asked various questions relating to her personal background, career, work experience, and business interests.

She disclosed that EFCC officials showed her video evidence from her daughter Priscilla’s wedding, which depicted guests, including fellow celebrities and friends, spraying both Nigerian Naira and foreign currencies.

“I was asked if I knew this was illegal, and I explained that I thought only the abuse or mutilation of the Naira was an offence,” Iyabo Ojo stated after her questioning by the EFCC.

The actress was then questioned about her awareness of the illegality of spraying money in Nigeria.

“I explained that I thought only the abuse or mutilation of the Naira was an offence,” Ojo stated. She added that the EFCC officials clarified that the act of spraying any currency, including U.S. dollars, is also prohibited under Nigerian law.

The actress further indicated that she was permitted to leave the EFCC premises after the questioning. Her lawyer, O.I. Salami, is now representing her in case any further inquiries are required.

In her public statement, Iyabo Ojo urged Nigerians to refrain from the practice of spraying money at social events. She cautioned that this long-standing cultural tradition could potentially lead to legal repercussions, given the EFCC’s stance on the matter.
