Controversial singer Portable claims a conspiracy in the Nigerian entertainment industry after actor Ibrahim Chatta lost an AMVCA award, echoing his own past snub by The Headies

Popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has ignited a new controversy within the Nigerian entertainment scene.

In a recent video shared on his Instagram platform, Portable alleged a concerted effort against certain individuals in the industry, specifically referencing actor Ibrahim Chatta’s loss at the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Ibrahim Chatta was nominated for the Best Lead Actor award for his performance in ‘House of GAA’ but ultimately lost to Femi Adebayo for his role in ‘Seven Doors’. Femi Adebayo’s co-star, Chioma Chukwuka, also secured the award for Best Lead Actress.

Portable, however, vehemently disagreed with the outcome, asserting that Ibrahim Chatta was more deserving of the prestigious award.

There is a gang-up in the Nigerian entertainment industry, even in Nollywood.

“There is a gang-up in the Nigerian entertainment industry, even in Nollywood,” Portable declared in his outspoken video. “They didn’t give Ibrahim Chatta the award at the 11th AMVCA despite his incredible acting. This is the same way I was snubbed by The Headies Awards.”

Portable also voiced his frustration with the perceived importance placed on awards, stating, “We don’t need awards. We need food, we need money. We have money, but we can’t use money to buy awards like some people can.”

In a show of support for the veteran actor, Portable reassured Chatta, saying, “If they don’t reward you, God will reward you. You are my mentor, I love you.”

Notably, this is not the first instance of Ibrahim Chatta expressing concerns about recognition within the industry. In 2023, the actor claimed that his exclusion from the AMVCA nominations at the time was part of a deliberate conspiracy against him.
