“Too many untimely deaths in Nollywood. Really Sad. R.I.P. to our fallen brothers. May God grant your families the strength to bear this painful loss,” Edochie wrote.

The tragic loss of Johnson and Gozman adds to a growing list of deaths within Nollywood in recent times. In March, the industry mourned the passing of veteran actress Nkechi Nweje after a brief illness. Just a month prior, veteran actor and academic Columbus Irisoanga also passed away.

Last year saw a particularly high number of losses for Nollywood, including legendary singer, songwriter, and actress Onyeka Onwenu in August, veteran actress Stella Ikwuegbu in June, and Yoruba Nollywood veteran Dayo Adewunmi (Sule Suebebe) also in June.

Earlier this year, the industry also grieved the deaths of veteran actor Zulu Adigwe in April, young actor Junior Pope who drowned in April, veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor in March, producer and marketer Ikechukwu Nnadi (Andy Best) in March, and Yoruba actor Sisi Quadri and veteran actor Mr. Ibu, both in February.

Yul Edochie’s reaction underscores the sense of loss and grief felt within the Nollywood community as it continues to grapple with the untimely passing of its members.
